Terry grew up in a rural farming community. Family told him that being an artist was an illusive dream. His high school counselor told him that he might make a good mechanic. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, in 1972, at the age of 26, Terry graduated with a Diploma in Applied Art from Red River Community College in Winnipeg.

Being a professional artist has taken Terry on an exciting trip. He has been in charge of multi-million dollar budgets. His work has taken him to Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. In 1978 Terry moved to Kamloops where he taught a pre-employment Commercial Art course at Cariboo College, now Thompson Rivers University. He taught life drawing, graphic design, photography and advertising. From 1980 to 1986, Terry concentrated on his own screen printing business. In 1986 he moved to Vancouver and built a sailboat. He also worked in the Trade Show Display business as a preparation artist, a creative artist and production supervisor. In 1991, he was able to pursue the dream of living on a sailboat to explore the West Coast from the Queen Charlotte Islands to San Francisco Bay.

Terry believes that to be an artist is to never stop being a student; to never stop being a teacher. Most of all, from being a radio operator in the Canadian Navy, to selling a product or service through print or being a full time painter, he always has a message to communicate.

Terry now lives in Kamloops. His paintings are in collections in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.

Artist Statement
I paint with acrylics on canvas that I've pre-coated bright orange. My creative process involves selecting thematic material and arranging my composition to create a narrative with visual interest and excitement. A scintillating weave of color with integration of the environment emphasizes the harmony of tone and pattern that leads my works into the region fo the surreal/abstract. The theme may be used on only one canvas or it may continue over a number of canvases. My style is original, my visualization inventive, described by media as whimsical. When complete, it is my wish that the viewer feels the paintings connection with its premise.
